What do you think of the new rules on tips and gratuities? A public consultation is currently underway seeking views on how the legislation is working in practice.
New rules regarding the treatment of tips and gratuities came into effect on 1 December 2022 following the enactment of the Payment of Wages (Amendment) (Tips and Gratuities) Act 2022. This legislation affects a wide range of businesses including hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, and hair and beauty salons.
At the time, in an article on this website, GroForth highlighted the main implications for employers and payroll operators.
Now that more than a year has passed since the legislation came into force, business owners and workers are being invited to submit their views on how the rules are working in practice.
This could be a good opportunity to highlight areas where you would like to see improvements made. Further information and details of how to submit your views are available on the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment website. The closing date for submissions is 3pm on 22 February 2024.
